From the Past - For the Future...Ashburton Aviation Museum tells the story of the important role the airfield played in training 1192 pilots to serve our country and its Allies during World War 11.

A Large model of the station in its heyday, clearly depicts the scale and importance of this period in the history of Ashburton Airfield.

View Asbhurton's Commemorative Tiger Moth, paying tribute to the instructors, students and the DH82a Tiger Moth type, in which so many of our wartime aircrews received their basic flying training. Marvel at an early flight simulator commonly used, the famous Link Trainer.

The original wartime tarmac outside the museum still features tie-down rings used to secure up to 50 Tiger Moths from Mid Canterbury's famous nor-west winds.

Harvard NZ 1012, the museum's first aircraft, provided pilots with "advanced training" from the early 1940's and was one fo 202 Harvards which saw service with the RNZAF.

The De Havilland Devon provided NZ military piolots and crew with multi-engine navigation and communication training. One of 30 with the Royal New Zealand Air Forces, NZ1829 has had a restful life with just 17.5 hours total flying time by retirement.

Southern DC3

Ashburton Aviation Museum is home to Southern DC3's Heritage Airliner, ZK-ZMY, known popularly as "AMY". Crewed by industry professionals and maintained to the highest standards, AMY is available for charter by inerested parties by arrangement.

Delivered new to the United States Army Air Force on June 9 1044, the aircraft went on to have a varied civil career in Australia before taking up residency in NZ in 1994.

This grand old airliner is entrusted to the museum in perpetuity and earns her keep by providing visitors with a taste of the "Golden years of Air Travel".
