Activity NGAIO MCKEE ARTIST(Ashburton)
Ngaio McKee

Ngaio McKee has been painting New Zealand scenery, still life, and heritage buildings for nearly three decades. Inspired by the beautiful Mid Canterbury plains, foothill and mountain high country scenery she has amassed a large portfolio of works that have been widely exhibited. Though landscape is Ngaio’s first love, she also enjoys painting buildings, flowers and still life subjects.

Ngaio is best known for traditional style watercolours, but occasionally uses oils, acrylic, pastel, or mixed media, and sometimes venture into a contemporary mode.

She sells most of her works through several local art cooperatives as well as through shows, special invited exhibitions, and by word of mouth.

An important part of her activities include supporting the local art scene through roles on the Ashburton Society of Arts committee, tutoring at the Ashburton College Community Learning Center, and judging local art competitions.

Some of her notable achievements include the 1996 South Canterbury Art Society "Trust Bank" Award, the 1999 Waimate Art Society Painting Award, and the 1999 North Otago Art Society "Totara Hotels" Merit Award. Most recently she have been focusing more on commissions and providing material for a growing tourist market. Many of her works are now in standing exhibitions and overseas collections.
