The Braided Waters Cycleway

Located in Canterbury New Zealand is a 145km, linear 3-4 day, cycling grade 1-2 journey:  past some of the most ancient geology in our country, through the earliest of both Maori and European histories and beside the newest agricultural technology. The foothills of the Southern Alps form the part of the trail, with globally unique braided rivers.  The hills are marked on the south by the Gondwanaland remnant of Mt Somers, and on the north by the vast bulk of Mt Hutt.  The Plains are formed by overlapping fans of the glacier-fed rivers: the Ashburton/Hakatere River, and the great Rakaia.
